Picturesque Pools with Year-Round Ambiance
Picturesque Pools with Year-Round Ambiance

With a call to CLC Landscape Design, the dream of a perfect backyard poolside oasis can be brought to life.

The Ringwood landscape architecture and construction firm has been transforming yards with award-winning designs for nearly five decades, and this time of year, customers are focused on summer swims and backyard barbecues.

"When you think of a pool, it's really a year-round experience," Richard Cording Sr. says. "It's not just a summer experience."

A pool designed and constructed by his company takes the entire environment into consideration.

"We are specialists in designing swimming pools and high-end backyards," Cording says. "How is the family going to use the pool? Where do you put it where it's still accessible, but doesn't become an eyesore in the winter, late fall and early spring? How do I integrate that pool into the family's lifestyle?"

Cording himself, is one of the design firm's six licensed landscape architects. Son Rich Jr., who has a master's degree from Columbia University in landscape construction, runs construction, while his brother Eric is on the sales side of the company.

"Great landscapes start with great ideas," Cording says. "The way we come up with these great ideas is we have a team of people who work together. We look at things differently."

There are seemingly endless amenities that can go along with a CLC Landscape Design pool plan, such as pergolas and shade structures, fountains and waterfalls, volleyball nets and diving areas. Retractable covers are a big request right now, too.

"You'll see a lot of rectangular pools in my portfolio. Many clients want the safety for their children of having a retractable cover," Cording explains.

About 75% of the pools CLC Landscaping Design works with end up being rectangles.

"It's really the trend. If it's not for the purpose of a pool cover, it's because people like that Hamptons look—grass right up to the edge, patio on two sides of it, really clean lines. Sometimes it's called a contemporary look," Cording says.

"You want to make sure that this pool and the patios and amenities around it are functional and beautiful for 12 months of the year," Cording says. "It's going to be a whole lifestyle. We can guide someone in any direction they may want to go."
