Bringing Visions to Life
Some 30 years ago, Steve Compton's father, Steve Compton Sr., and uncle, David Connors, started a traditional landscaping maintenance business that they have grown into a major landscape design and restoration company.
This well-respected, full-service design/build/restore outdoor-living company, for the past 14 years, has grown its customer base and the number of employees to 25 while maintaining the high-quality customer service and workmanship the family has prided itself on for nearly three decades.
With the trend of families increasingly enjoying their outdoor living spaces and spending more time at home, it makes the design and renovation projects that CKC Landscaping does even more popular.
"Our business is all about our relationships with our customers," Steve Compton Jr. says. "By listening to their needs, delivering on those needs, being a partner from concept to design through construction, and maintaining their outdoor spaces beyond ... we can always provide a stellar experience."
The business philosophy of CKC Landscaping—which is reflected by every one of its hard-working members—is that "Our main priority is your satisfaction. Our highly skilled team is constantly training and pushing themselves to do better for our customers."
This family-owned and -operated business takes a project from start to finish, regardless of the complexity of the job involved. "Whether you are installing a new patio, completely renovating your backyard, or maintaining previous outdoor spaces," Compton Jr. explains, "we are your partner from concept and design through construction, as well as maintaining the outdoor spaces."
Their work includes building natural stone patios and walkways, built-in grills and seating, pool patios, outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, landscape lighting, roof pergolas, outdoor lighting and much more, and all of it will blend seamlessly with the home. "The idea is to create the setting for a million memories our customers and their families will look forward to making."
What separates this company from its competitors is that this is one of the few contractors in the industry truly capable of handing a majority of the customer's needs in-house.
For example, CKC Landscaping has carpenters on staff who build decks and porches, and employs masons to build retaining walls. "When a customer hires CKC Landscaping, we are in charge of the entire project. They aren't waiting for sub-contractors to do the work, and there aren't the dreaded delays. From the initial consultation through the design process, installation, and building, everything is all under our control."
How does this company separate itself from the competition? "We are putting a quality product out there that lets us continue to grow," Compton Jr. says.
"Our product speaks for itself," he continues. "Customers have peace of mind when they hire us, after seeing our work on our website or visiting one or more projects to see what we have actually designed and created."
Many homeowners who want to build or renovate their outdoor living spaces may be overwhelmed by choosing a company and have no idea of how to start. A good first step, according to Compton Jr., is for a homeowner to perform an online search, look at magazines, or get a referral from a friend, neighbor or family member. If they are interested in CKC Landscaping, the next step is to fill out an online form or make a call and talk to him, his uncle or his dad, then make an appointment with any of them to see the space.
Compton Jr. visits homeowners whose projects need some TLC or maintenance 5-10 years after installation, as well as those of their dreams but who have no idea how to initiate the concept.
"We're going to move as fast as you want to and are willing to," he says. "Sometimes with larger projects, it can take weeks, or months, before a client can move the ball on their side. We will work at their pace."
CKC Landscaping offers several warranties from the firm and the manufacturers. For example, decking products have 20-plus years and pavers offer up to a lifetime warranty. "So, when it comes to being concerned about workmanship, materials and products, we are there for the long haul."
What can new and existing customers expect from Compton Jr., his family members and their experienced team?
"We are respectful and communicative—something that is often lost in the contracting world. If there is ever a question, the customer can call my personal cell phone and get a quick response," he says. "Our attention to detail and quality materials, workmanship and performance is a must. We want all of our customers to be immensely proud to show off what we built and tell their neighbors, friends and family members about us."
When Compton Jr. talks about the business, the pride in his voice truly resonates. "I am doing something I am passionate about and what I love," he says. "I love creating, and we create 100-plus projects a year in all different sizes. Not one of them is a carbon copy and it is wonderful to build something unique for your customers. The fact that it's something my father and uncle built, it fills me with love to carry on the family legacy."
